Rene & Linda LaBerge
The South Burlington Dolphins were founded in 1967 by Rene LaBerge, who started coaching youth football on a field next to his property. Over the past 58 years, Rene has dedicated countless hours to mentoring over 3,000 young players, instilling values like teamwork, education, and personal responsibility. The program welcomes all players, fostering a sense of community and pride while achieving 13 state championships in a 17 team league.
Rene and his wife, Linda, have shown extraordinary dedication to their players, offering not only guidance but also opening their home to those in need and supporting their education and aspirations. Rene’s efforts have transformed youth football in Vermont, expanding the league from 4 flag football teams with 30 players to over 50 tackle teams with more than 2,100 players, leaving a lasting impact on generations of players and coaches.

Bryan Belisle
Co-Head Coach & Defensive Coordinator (Grades 7/8)
Bryan Belisle, a Dolphin quarterback from ‘81 to ‘85 and former South Burlington Rebel, was a coach from ‘00 to ‘13 with the South Burlington Dolphins during which time he worked his way from quarterbacks coach to associate head coach of the 7th and 8th grade team by ‘09. The son of long-time Dolphin defensive coordinator, Richard E Belisle (‘81 to ‘06), and long-time videographer, Nancy Belisle (‘81 to ‘13), and father to former Dolphin quarterback/strong safety and defensive captain, Brianna Belisle (‘07 to ‘15), Bryan has a broad knowledge of the game of football and will serve in many capacities throughout the coaching structure with primary emphasis on linebackers and secondary. Bryan, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and his wife, Cindy Parker Belisle, live in South Burlington with their daughters Brianna and Chelsi.

Vice President
Javen Sears
Head Football Coach (Grades 5/6)
Meet Javen Sears, a former South Burlington Dolphin (Class of 2015) and standout alum of South Burlington High School’s Class of 2020. Javen has always had a keen eye for detail, developing a passion for breaking down game films as early as seventh grade. His dedication helped him earn numerous accolades, including 2nd Team All-State as a wide receiver for the state of Vermont and the Unsung Hero Award in his senior year.
After graduating high school, he joined the South Burlington Dolphins staff in 2021 as a media intern and assistant coach. Since then, he has taken on various roles, including videographer, marketing director, and offensive coordinator, ultimately advancing to his current position as the organization’s Vice President and Head Coach of the 5th/6th grade tackle team.
Currently, Javen is a student at the University of Vermont, where he has demonstrated strong leadership across multiple roles. He served as President and starting Quarterback for the UVM Club Football team and is an active member of UVM’s prestigious Lawrence Debate Union, a 125-year-old program that participates in competitive debate (BP & Civic) internationally against top universities, including Ivy League institutions. His experience also extends to sports management, having worked as a Sponsorship & Promotions Intern for UVM Athletics Department, briefly a Student Manager for UVM Men’s Basketball, and a current Sprinters Coach for South Burlington High School’s Indoor Track team.
In addition, Javen is a skilled media strategist, managing the Dolphins’ social media presence across Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. His creative approach to content and video editing has earned him the nickname “The Movie Magic Man.”
Javen’s passion for football, media, and leadership makes him an invaluable asset to his home community. We are proud to have him as part of our team and look forward to seeing his continued impact on the sport and beyond.

COACHES

Russell Humphrey
Youth Tackle Football Coach – Co-Head Coach & Co-Defensive Coordinator (Grades 7/8)
Russell Humphrey, a former tight end for the Burlington Seahorses, an offensive lineman/tight end for the Vermont Ice Storm and the Plattsburgh North Stars, was a coach from ’13 to ’17 with the South Burlington Dolphins during which time he was the offensive line coach and defensive coordinator of the 7th and 8th grade team. As a player, Russell was fortunate to be part of two league titles with the Vermont Ice Storm and two National Championship titles for the same in addition to being the defensive coordinator for the Plattsburgh North Stars National Championship team in ’14. In addition to being a co-head coach, Russell will serve as the defensive coordinator for the Dolphins.

Nicole Downey
Head Cheer Coach
Has coached cheer for over a decade now and has been with the Dolphins since 2013. Nicole has sent dozens of highly competitive cheerleaders to the local high school, SBHS, that went on to become dominant state champs and if not has always kept the school in the conversation. This will be Nicole’s 10th year leading the Dolphins cheer squad and they are extremely excited to compete later this fall!

Joshua Carey
Youth Tackle Football Coach – Co-Offensive Coordinator (Grades 7/8)
Joshua Carey, a former Burlington Seahorses standout, played Quarterback and Defensive Back from 2004 to 2007, gaining invaluable experience that shaped his coaching expertise. A three-year Varsity starter, he played a key role in securing a D2 State Championship and earned Second Team All-State honors as a Defensive Back for the state of Vermont. In 2013, Carey continued his playing career as a Safety and Cornerback for the Vermont Ravens.
His transition to coaching began in 2010, leading the Winooski Youth program’s 7th & 8th grade teams. Since 2022, he has been an integral part of the Dolphins program, coaching alongside his sons, Jackson and Teagan. Most recently, he served as the Head Coach for the 5th-6th grade team in 2023 and 2024, further demonstrating his dedication to developing young athletes.

Jerrall Sinclair
Youth Tackle Football Coach – Defensive & Offensive Line (Grades 7/8)
Jerrall Sinclair, a former Dolphin and three-year varsity letterman at Defensive Tackle for the South Burlington High School Rebels Football team, showcased his talent in the North-South Senior Game and as a member of the Vermont Shrine Team. Continuing his playing career at Castleton State University, he made history as the first freshman Defensive Tackle to earn all-conference honors. A dedicated mentor, he has been coaching with the Dolphins consistently for over a decade. Returning to the Dolphins’ coaching staff in 2025 as the Defensive Line Coach, Sinclair brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to aspiring linemen and all youth athletes in South Burlington.

Ronnie Corey lll
Defensive Coordinator (Grades 5/6)
Ronnie Corey III, whose football journey began at the age of 6, showcased his tremendous versatility and relentless determination. As a South Burlington Rebel, Wolf, and Seawolf in high school, Ronnie defined his running back prowess. Notable moments include a staggering 200+ yards rushing, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions in a standout game again North Country his senior year. He also excelled defensively with 11 tackles and 1 forced fumble. His narrative expanded as he embraced kicking in his final high school year, adding to his running back and cornerback responsibilities. Small in size but brilliant in impact, he’s left an unforgettable mark. Beyond football, Ronnie pursued Mechanical Engineering at VTC. As a coordinator coach for the SB Dolphins, his new role reflects his deep game understanding and teaching. Ronnie’s journey epitomizes passion and an unyielding spirit, inspiring excellence in sports and life’s pursuits.

Kyle Breen
Co-Offensive Coordinator (Grades 7/8)
Growing up in New England, Kyle spent his weekends outdoors, developing a passion for athletics and fitness.
A natural leader, Kyle has built a strong network in fitness, business & sports through coaching, basketball, and gym management. He played on numerous national traveling AAU teams, further honing his competitive edge. He began his coaching journey with the Dolphins in July of 2024 where he served as co-offensive coordinator, working with OL, DL, and TE’s, focusing on strength, technique, and teamwork for 7th-8th graders.
A former standout at Proctor Academy (Class of 2022), Kyle played varsity football as an OLB and TE, posting impressive athletic stats. Now at UVM’s Grossman School of Business (Class of 2026), he studies Entrepreneurship with a Marketing concentration. This summer (2025), he will attend Officer Candidate School for the U.S. Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia, further demonstrating his commitment to discipline and leadership.
Dedicated to hard work and collaboration, Kyle leads by example, fostering a positive and disciplined environment for all young athletes.
